Terracotta

Another project for Harrison, this one for a HMS Host brand, an Italian inspired restaurant going in to airports across the world. They had the brand, but realised the branding needed to reflect the offer in a way the current branding didn't. So I went to work with the interior design team to bring the new brand personality to life.

The brand was built as a story of a modern-day traveller with its roots in authenticity with the Italian reputation for generosity, homemaking, and home-cooking.

We wanted the brand to be warm, welcoming and homely, so the colour palette was important in achieving that.

I liked the simplicity of a wrought iron sign, underscored with simple, naive type below - trying to mimic a hand rendered finish, even deliberately having uneven letter spacing.

While the logo on printed materials was designed to be simple, it still had to get its elbows out so that in the busy food hall environment in terminal buildings, it still had standout.

I designed the menu to be printed on handmade, unbleached paper to hammer home that homespun feel - and I added a hand drawn font to add personality plus a recipe card that customers might like to photograph and try.

As it's an airport restarurant, we thought that the bill could come clipped to recipe postcards, to keep or to send. A nod to the story of the interior of that of an Italian travelling near and far but always enjoying his food.
